According to the HSE (UK) there are 5 steps to assessing risk in your workplace.
1. Identify the hazards
2. Decide who might be harmed and how
3. Evaluate the risks and what precautions might be necessary
4. Document the identified risks and implement the precautions
5. Review the risks and update if and when necessary
